New Macbook Pros in the works?

It appears Mac lovers might be in for a treat in the near future, following some digging by Apple technology site Applesana.es.

Having browsed through the configuration files of the latest build of Mac OS X, the most recent operating system out of Cupertino, the site claims to have found references to two new Macbook Pro models.

It is reported that the 10.6.2 update to the operating system (build 10C531) hold the configuration files in which Applesana made the discovery. Within the files references to Macbook Pro 6.1 and Macbook Pro 6.1b are made. The current crops of Macbook Pros are designated numbers from 5.1 through to 5.5.

Although speculative, it is not unfathomable to think Apple will soon update its Macbook Pro line, given that it was not updated during the latest Apple product refresh, which saw iMacs gain the powerful Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.

The Intel Core i7 mobile processor in particular offers greater performance than any of its predecessors. Specifically, the i7 mobile has the technology to increase clock speed by up to 75% to match the workload of the system, and has strong performance with multi-threaded applications.

The last Macbook Pro update took place in June 2009, which featured Intel's Core 2 Duo processors and nVidia GeForce 9400M/9600M GT video cards.

eBay tightens rules around unpaid item disputes

EBay has announced changes to the unpaid item dispute process; a move aimed at curbing the friction that can occur between buyers and sellers when something goes wrong at the auction site.

The announcements specifically relate to unpaid items, which are those that are not paid for within a reasonable amount of time. eBay typically encourage users to contact one another to resolve potential issues in this event, but if this cannot or does not happen the resolution process kicks in.

The changes to the unpaid item dispute process include:

- Reducing the waiting period before a dispute can be opened from 7 days to 4 days
- Reducing the dispute resolution process from up to 60 days to around 30 days
- Reducing the period of time following the sale of an item in which a dispute can be filed from 45 days down to 32 days

In addition to the above changes, eBay has indicated that there are fewer forms to be filled when lodging an unpaid item dispute. There is now also no need to liaise directly with the other party back and forth; the item seller instead determines how much communication they are willing to take part in with the buyer.

EBay has also taken the role of 'middleman' under the changes, authoring all emails between the buyer and the seller to give them a more neutral tone.

Finally, the language used on the site regarding unpaid items is being softened so that terms like "unpaid item strike" are no longer used, although such occurrences still have the same negative impact on the buyer.

It has been announced that these changes take place immediately.

Netflix announces upcoming PS3 streaming service

For those who are unaware, Netflix is a great service for renting movies over theInternet, saving the time and hassle of visiting the video store. The service is available forcomputers, Microsoft's Xbox 360, and as announced today, the Sony PS3, which will be compatible starting next month.

In a press release posted earlier, Netflix revealed the news, stating that the service will be available at no extra cost for those already subscribed. According to the press release, "watching movies instantly streamed from Netflix via the PS3 system will be enabled by a free, instant streaming Blu-ray disc that is being made available to all Netflix members." Of course, you'll need to be connected to the Internet on your PS3 for this to be possible.
